Since 2007, OCU has worked toward developing and implementing wellness programming aimed at fostering a visibly healthy culture that recognizes and embraces the importance of wellbeing as an integral aspect of our institutional values.
The mission of OCU Wellness is to create a culture that supports and facilitates the desire of each member of the OCU community to make healthy lifestyle choices to enhance personal wellbeing. In other words, we're here to help make the healthy choice the easy choice.
Wellness is housed in the department of Human Resources but we partner with many other areas across campus to develop and deliver wellness programming.
Our on-campus partners include:
- Family Healthcare and Minor Emergency Clinic
- Exercise and Sports Science department
- Athletics
- Intramural Sports and Recreation
- OCU dining and more
We also work closely with our benefits partners including UMR/United Healthcare (medical insurance), Delta Dental (dental insurance), VSP (vision insurance), Symetra (employee assistance program), TIAA (retirement program), and others to provide coordinated wellness services.
Wellness at OCU takes many forms. We're proud to offer our faculty and staff a variety of ways to participate in wellness. Be on the lookout for more information throughout the year regarding programs, ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ and services:
- Fitness center access
- Quarterly fitness and/or healthy behavior challenges
- Stress management groups
- Financial wellness outreach
- Healthy cooking demonstrations
- Mobile mammography
- Flu prevention services
That all sounds pretty great, right? But wait, there's more! Did you know...
Employees receive 60 minutes of wellness time each week to be used in support of an on-campus wellness-related activity? That means you can make a date with the gym, sign up for exercise classes, take a walk around campus, or participate in another wellness activity or program right here on campus!
Our campus has a 1.3-mile walking path to help you take in the sights of campus while logging steps. Just follow the wellness path markers around campus to rack up the miles.
Your department has (or can have) a Wellness Champions meet every other month to discuss upcoming wellness opportunities and events as well as to provide feedback regarding current programming. Find out who your champion is! And, if your department doesn't have a current champion, contact us and we'll add you to this fun group!
Send us your ideas!
We're open to new ideas. If you and/or your department have ideas about how we can support your wellness efforts, just let us know! We can help you develop healthy meeting protocols that include stretching. We can help you design menus for events and meetings that make healthy choice the easy choice for attendees. You name it and we can help you foster a healthy culture within your very own department.
